EYFS - Sycamore Class - Autumn 2
Hello Sycamore Class parents
We have had a very busy and exciting half term in Sycamore Class! The children have been busy exploring and had lots of fun learning new things. We have enjoyed listening to, talking about, and retelling different Traditional Tales. The children did incredibly well with their dances and beautiful singing which they performed in the Nativity show.
PSED: The children have been busy developing friendships with each other. We will continue to develop these friendships, think about others, and talk about feelings.
Literacy: We are enjoying reading different Traditional Tales and spotting the similarities and differences within stories. The children have been creating their own story maps and retelling the stories we have learnt so far. We have been using our phonic knowledge to write sounds and simple words linked to the story. We will continue to use our phonic knowledge when writing and focus on forming our letters correctly.
Phonics: In Sycamore Class the children are enjoying learning our sounds and tricky words. We will continue to build our sound knowledge daily and blend sounds together to read words. Please look at your sound books every day.
Maths: We have been learning all about numbers, exploring the counting system and developing our understanding of each number to 5. We have also been learning that a number can be made up of different parts and exploring partitioning a whole number into different parts. We will continue to build on this as we look at numbers to 10.
Sound books: Please bring these into school every day. These sounds should be practiced daily at home. In the front of the sound book there are some activities you can pick and choose from to support learning at home. If you talk about the sounds please write a note in the book. The sound book will be used at both school and home.
Library: We will visit the school library every Thursday. The children will borrow a book to bring home for the week.
Next half term our learning theme is ‘Our World’.
Thank you for all your support at home this term. We hope you have a lovely Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Home learning:
To support our class learning, have fun on a sound hunt and listen to the sounds in the environment. Go through your sound books every day. Look for print and numbers in your environment. Talk about numbers and count items up to 10 e.g. steps or number of plates at the table. Share stories with your child at home every day. Talk about the front cover, predict what might happen and ask questions about the text. Enjoy singing nursery rhymes and identify rhyming words in stories.
