Supporting Mental Health
The health and wellbeing of our pupils is extremely important to St Lawrence Primary School and The Howard Partnership Trust.
Nationally, there is an increasing understanding that children’s mental health & well-being will affect their learning. Schools in the Howard Partnership Trust are committed in promoting a healthy lifestyle & positive well-being as part of our curriculum offer for all children, as well as identifying and supporting those pupils who are struggling.
At St Lawrence we have introduced an annual measure of “resilience” which is one aspect of a young person’s well-being.
Resilience is defined as our ability to “bounce back” after things in our life go wrong. At times things can happen to us which may not necessarily be our fault and the greater resilience we have, the greater our chance to recover and “bounce back”. National studies of children and teenagers raise concerns about their resilience, suggesting it is harder for them given some of the pressures they may face. Our aim is to collect information from every pupil, once per year, to help identify those that may need additional support.
At St Lawrence we also have a Mental Health Champion and Emotional Literacy Support Assistant who are responsible for promoting and supporting positive mental health and wellbeing for all.
As part of THPT you may find information on support provided by the Trust useful.
